Journal "Regional research".


The journal “Regional Studies” (Smolensk, the publishing house of the Smolensk University for the Humanities) was established in 2001 by the following founders: the Institute of Geography of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Moscow, the Geography Department of the Lomonosov Moscow State University, the Research Geography Institute at the Saint-Petersburg State University and the Smolensk University for the Humanities.
The editor-in-chief – Doctor of Geography Science, Vice-Rector for Research of the Smolensk University for the Humanities, Director of the Research Institute for Regional Studies A.P. Katrovsky.
The editorial board comprises celebrated scientists and professors of Russian, Belorussian, German and British educational institutions who are well known both in Russia and abroad.
In 2006 and in the first half of 2007 the journal was published 4 times a year, however, since the second half of 2007 it has been published once in two months, i.e. 6 times a year. In 2007 it was also turned into a subscription journal (the subscription index is 20442 in the catalogue of the “Rospechat” (“Russian Publishing”) Agency). The circulation of the journal has amounted to 500 copies since 2007. From 2008 to 2009 its periodicity was 6 journal issues a year whereas in 2010 it was reduced to 4 issues a year.

All the papers are duly peer-reviewed before publishing in the journal.

All the papers, including those of postgraduates and students, are published free of charge.

The Journal is registered in the International Centre ISSN (ISSN 1994-5280, EAN-13: 9771994528672).

In February 2009 an agreement with the Limited Liability Company “RUNEB” (Russian National Electronic Library) was signed in order to include the journal in the system of the Russian Scientific Citation Index on the following conditions “ensuring free access to the whole-text version of the journal for the registered Library users” (Agreement 16-02/09а d.d. 17.02.2009).

The journal publishes papers on the theory and methodology of the regional studies, regional policy in Russia and abroad, on economic, social, political and recreational geography in Russian and in foreign countries, bibliographical reviews, critical and book reviews as well as information about various scientific and research events which are held on the issues of social geography, regional policy and regional development.

From 2002 to 2012 there were published about 500 papers written by more than 400 authors. The range of authors embraces not only well-known specialists, i.e. scientists and professors, but also postgraduate students and students who are just starting their career in research. The main criterion for selecting papers for publication has always been the quality of their content. Representatives of various scholar schools publish their works in the journal.
There have been authors from all parts of Russia from Kaliningrad to Vladivostok, from Syktyvkar and Yakutsk to Grozny and Stavropol. They have represented 24 scientific centers in Russia, some centers in the Commonwealth of Independent States and non-CIS countries. The most significant contribution to the development of the journal has been made by those authors who represent educational and research institutions of Moscow, Smolensk, Saint-Petersburg, Tver, Saransk and Yekaterinburg.
The journal is carrying out a most important mission on integration of the CIS countries in the field of science and research. There have been published papers written by scientists of Kazakhstan, Belorussia, Germany and Great Britain.
